My Approach
I am deeply committed to creating an environment that is as welcoming to people of all genders, sexual preferences, races, incomes, body sizes, and abilities as possible. This is reflected in my attention to the physical space, ongoing participation in trainings and other forms of education, and working with clients’ feedback to make sure each person feels safe and comfortable in my office. I come at therapy from an anti-oppressive practice, critical standpoint. I value learning from clients and making changes in the way we are working together when it is necessary and possible.
“One of the greatest gifts you have given to me has been your acceptance – no matter where I have been in my journey, you have accepted me with no judgment.”
Individual therapy for adults, teens,
couples and families
I believe that a collaborative and accepting relationship is the best way to support people as they change and heal. I have a relational style of therapy and I value authenticity, acceptance, and humor. My clients often appreciate that I am not a blank slate; when clients want to know what I think I’m always willing to be open with my thoughts and reactions. While I am able to offer skills, questions, honest feedback, and new perspectives, I believe and deeply respect that clients are the most knowledgeable about their life experiences and the choices that will bring them greatest contentment.
My primary treatment modalities are Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, and Dynamic Emotional Integration. I believe that all emotions have a purpose and carry information – sometimes faster and more authentically than our intellectual side – and I love helping clients learn to listen and respond to this side of themselves.
“Even though our daughter wasn’t the most “open to counseling” kid, I really believe Nicole helped her in ways we couldn’t have. I think our daughter gained a good sense of self and that has given her confidence a boost.”
Eating Disorder Treatment
I believe that people are doing the best they can to manage the problems they face. However, sometimes the way we cope starts to hurt us. I help clients understand what purpose their actions, feelings and beliefs serve, and determine alternate ways of meeting needs that are not damaging.
Whether you are struggling with an eating disorder, disordered eating, or other difficulties managing your relationship with your body, I can offer guidance and expertise finding a path to recovery. I have many years of experience and have worked at the residential, day treatment, and outpatient levels of care.
I help clients to understand how their food and body difficulties manifested, what it will take to restore connections with themselves and others, and how to build a life that is in alignment with their values and authentic self.
I am a Health at Every Size® practitioner, use intuitive eating principles, and take an anti-diet, weight neutral approach.
“I am able to wake up each day and not hate myself anymore and I finally believe in my heart that I will live a life completely free from this eating disorder. I never could have gotten to where I am now without you and the hope that you held for me.”
